Hydrochlorothiazide, Moexipril falls under SULFONAMIDE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Procaine interacts with.

A metabolite of procaine, aminobenzoic acid, can antagonize the effect of sulfonamides. Theoretically, procaine might also reduce sulfonamide activity. Some sulfonamides include sulfamethoxazole (Gantanol), sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), sulfisoxazole (Gantrisin), and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim, Septra).

Here's the good news: this particular interaction note really targets sulfonamide antibiotics (think Bactrim or sulfasalazine), because procaine breaks down into PABA, which can blunt how those infection-fighting drugs work. Your medication, Uniretic, is a combination of hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) and moexipril (an ACE inhibitor for blood pressure). It is not an antibiotic, so the concern described here doesn't really apply to how it does its job.

Hydrochlorothiazide does carry a 'sulfa' chemical structure, which is why it sometimes gets grouped with sulfonamides, but it isn't an antibacterial, so PABA doesn't cancel out its blood-pressure or fluid effects. This is theoretical anyway. To be safe, just run any procaine-containing product by your pharmacist or doctor first.
