Here's the situation with these two. Cisatracurium (Nimbex) is a powerful muscle relaxant used during surgery and in the ICU to keep muscles, including the ones you breathe with, completely relaxed. It's only given by IV in a closely monitored setting. Procaine is a numbing anesthetic, and when it's given into a vein it can add to that muscle-relaxing effect, potentially making the paralysis deeper or longer than expected. That's why injecting procaine alongside cisatracurium is a real concern, and IV procaine is essentially off the table here.

This is rated as a serious, theoretical interaction based on how these drugs work, not a long list of real-world cases. The good news is that your anesthesia team manages all of this for you. There's nothing for you to start or stop on your own, but if you ever take a procaine product, mention it to your doctor.

Procaine is a synthetic local anesthetic (best known by the brand name Novocaine) used by doctors and dentists to numb tissue. It is not a true dietary supplement or herb, and the 'anti-aging' products built around it (such as GH3 or 'Gerovital') have weak evidence and real safety concerns. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using any product containing procaine.

About Cisatracurium

What Is Cisatracurium Used For?

Brand name: Nimbex

Cisatracurium Besylate Injection is used alongside general anesthesia to help place a breathing tube (tracheal intubation) in adults and in children 1 month through 12 years of age. It is also used to relax the muscles of the body during surgical procedures in adults and in pediatric patients 2 to 12 years of age.

In adult patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), cisatracurium besylate injection is used to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during mechanical ventilation — when a breathing machine is doing the work of breathing. It is not recommended for rapid-sequence intubation (a fast-acting emergency airway technique) because it takes longer to work than drugs used for that purpose.
