Dantrolene falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Kava interacts with.

Theoretically, using kava with hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of liver damage.
Kava has been linked with over 100 cases of hepatotoxicity. Most cases occur with excessive and prolonged use. There is some concern that kava can adversely affect the liver, especially when used in combination with hepatotoxic drugs.

Here's the concern with pairing kava and dantrolene: both can be hard on your liver. Dantrolene already carries a known risk of liver injury, especially with long-term use for muscle stiffness, and kava has been tied to over 100 reported cases of liver problems. Stacking two liver stressors together could, in theory, raise that risk.

I want to be honest that this is based on anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, and most kava liver cases happened with heavy, prolonged use. Still, with dantrolene I'd play it safe. Watch for warning signs like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, unusual tiredness, or nausea, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

Kava is a Pacific Island plant traditionally used to promote relaxation and ease anxiety, and some studies suggest it may help mild anxiety. However, kava has been linked to rare but serious liver damage, so it should be used with caution, avoided by people with liver problems, and only used after talking with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Dantrolene

What Is Dantrolene Used For?

Brand names: Dantrium, Dantrium Intravenous

Dantrolene sodium capsules (Dantrium, Dantrolene Sodium) are used by mouth to control spasticity — painful or disabling muscle stiffness and spasms — caused by upper motor neuron disorders such as spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, or multiple sclerosis. They are not used for muscle spasm from arthritis or other rheumatic conditions. Oral capsules are also used before and after surgery to prevent or reduce the risk of malignant hyperthermia in patients known to be susceptible.

For an active malignant hyperthermia crisis — a sudden, dangerous overheating of the muscles triggered by certain anesthetics — the intravenous (IV) forms are given in the hospital. Dantrium Intravenous, Revonto, Ryanodex, and Dantrolene injection are all indicated to treat a malignant hyperthermia crisis and may also be given before surgery to help prevent one in high-risk patients.
