Drug & supplement interaction

Balneotherapy + Moxidectin

Moxidectin brand name: Moxidectin.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Balneotherapy and Moxidectin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Balneotherapy and Moxidectin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Moxidectin and Balneotherapy in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Balneotherapy alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Balneotherapy at all — not against Moxidectin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Balneotherapy is a treatment rather than something you take. Tell whoever provides it which medicines you use, and ask your prescriber whether it is appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Balneotherapy and Moxidectin May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so having Balneotherapy while taking the medicine can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

Balneotherapy in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy Possibly Unsafe

When heated balneotherapy is used. Conditions that increase maternal core temperature above 39°C have been associated with increased risk of teratogenicity. Some early research also found an association between maternal heat exposure in the form of a hot tub or sauna during the first trimester and increased risk of neural tube defects. While a more recent analysis of clinical research shows that it is safe for pregnant women to sit in hot baths at 40°C (104°F) or in saunas at 70°C (158°F) for up to 20 minutes, regardless of trimester, clinical practice guidelines by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists still discourage pregnant women from using hot water baths during pregnancy due to possible risks. Until more is known, pregnant women should avoid hot balneotherapy baths and other treatments. There is insufficient reliable information available about the safety of balneotherapy heated to less than 39°C; avoid using.

“Moxidectin is usually taken as a single oral dose to clear the parasite that causes river blindness, which means it only works if that one dose is fully absorbed. All 17 supplements flagged here can interfere with exactly that, and one of them, activated charcoal, is rated major because it binds drugs in the gut and can strip away a la…”

About Balneotherapy

What is Balneotherapy?

  • Osteoarthritis joint pain
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Low back pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Psoriasis and skin conditions
  • Relaxation and stress relief

Balneotherapy is a traditional treatment that uses bathing in mineral-rich or thermal water, often combined with mud or other natural elements, mainly for joint and skin problems. Some studies suggest it may ease pain and stiffness in conditions like osteoarthritis, but the quality of evidence is limited and benefits may be short-term. It is generally considered low-risk for healthy adults, but people with heart problems, open wounds, or certain medical conditions should check with a doctor first.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Balneotherapy is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Balneotherapy record says about it on its own.

Balneotherapy: dosing

There is no single standardized "dose" for balneotherapy. Treatment programs vary widely in water temperature, mineral content, length of each session, and number of sessions per week. Avoid very hot water and overly long sessions, and stop if you feel dizzy, overheated, or unwell.

About Moxidectin

What Is Moxidectin Used For?

Brand name: Moxidectin

Moxidectin Tablets are used to treat onchocerciasis — a parasitic infection caused by Onchocerca volvulus, commonly known as river blindness. It is approved for adults and children aged 4 years and older who weigh at least 13 kg (about 29 lbs).

Important to know: Moxidectin does not kill the adult O. volvulus worms — it targets the immature larvae (microfilariae) instead. Because of this, follow-up evaluation after treatment is advised. The safety and effectiveness of taking Moxidectin more than once for this infection has not been studied.

We do not list a known interaction between Balneotherapy and Moxidectin. That does not guarantee the combination is risk-free, so confirm with your pharmacist or doctor — especially if you take other medications or have a health condition.
Do Balneotherapy and Moxidectin have any of the same side effects?
Yes — our sources link each of them separately to 2 of the same effects. That is not an interaction: neither changes how your body handles the other. It does mean that if one of those effects turns up, it can be harder to tell which one is behind it. They are listed on this page with the source behind each.
Does Moxidectin interact with any supplements?
Yes. Moxidectin has documented interactions with 17 supplements in our database — Balneotherapy is not one of them. The Moxidectin interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
