Here's the thing to keep in mind: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. Its porous, charred surface can latch onto medicines you swallow, and that includes Moxidectin, which you take by mouth to treat parasitic infections like river blindness. If the charcoal binds the drug before your body absorbs it, less of the medicine actually gets into your bloodstream, and that could mean it doesn't fully clear the parasites it's meant to treat.

This concern is based on how charcoal works in general, not on a specific study with Moxidectin, so it's more theoretical than proven. Still, an easy fix is timing. Separating the two by at least two hours lowers the chance of trouble. Please run your exact schedule by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Moxidectin

What Is Moxidectin Used For?

Brand name: Moxidectin

Moxidectin Tablets are used to treat onchocerciasis — a parasitic infection caused by Onchocerca volvulus, commonly known as river blindness. It is approved for adults and children aged 4 years and older who weigh at least 13 kg (about 29 lbs).

Important to know: Moxidectin does not kill the adult O. volvulus worms — it targets the immature larvae (microfilariae) instead. Because of this, follow-up evaluation after treatment is advised. The safety and effectiveness of taking Moxidectin more than once for this infection has not been studied.
