Here's the concern when you pair these two. Phenolphthalein (Modane and similar) is an old-style stimulant laxative that works by getting your bowels moving. The trouble is that when stimulant laxatives are overused or taken too often, they can flush out potassium along with everything else, leaving your body low on this important mineral.

Why does that matter with Black Hellebore? This plant contains compounds that act on the heart much like digoxin and other cardiac glycosides. When potassium drops, those heart-affecting chemicals become more dangerous, raising the risk of irregular or unsafe heart rhythms. This is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not hard proof, but Black Hellebore is genuinely toxic and isn't safe to take. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before going near it.
