Ropinirole falls under DOPAMINE AGONISTS — the group Black Horehound interacts with.

Theoretically, black horehound might have additive effects when used with dopamine agonists. Some constituents of black horehound bind to dopamine D2 receptors in vitro; however, this has not yet been reported in humans. Some dopamine agonists include bromocriptine (Parlodel), levodopa (Dopar, component of Sinemet), pramipexole (Mirapex), ropinirole (Requip), and others.

Here is the gist with ropinirole (Requip) and black horehound. Ropinirole works by acting like dopamine at certain brain receptors, called D2 receptors. In lab dish studies, some compounds in black horehound have also been shown to attach to those same D2 receptors. So the theory is that the two could add to each other and push the dopamine effect a little harder than ropinirole alone.

If that happened, you might notice more of ropinirole's usual effects, like nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, drowsiness, or even sudden sleepiness. That said, this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube work, and it has not been seen in real people. Still, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Ropinirole Used For?

Brand names: Requip, Adartrel

Ropinirole tablets are used to treat two conditions: Parkinson's disease and moderate-to-severe primary Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) — the uncomfortable urge to move the legs, especially at night or at rest.

Ropinirole extended-release tablets are indicated specifically for Parkinson's disease only. If you take the extended-release form, it is not approved for RLS — that use applies to the regular (immediate-release) tablets.
