What Is Gilteritinib Used For?

Brand name: Xospata

Xospata (gilteritinib) is used to treat adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — a fast-moving blood and bone marrow cancer — when the disease has come back after prior treatment (relapsed) or stopped responding to treatment (refractory). It is only used when a laboratory test approved by the FDA has confirmed that the leukemia cells carry a FLT3 mutation, a genetic change that helps the cancer grow.

Because response can take time, treatment for at least 6 months is generally recommended as long as the disease is not progressing and side effects are manageable.
