Chlorthalidone, Clonidine falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Butternut interacts with.

Butternut has stimulant laxative effects. Theoretically, overuse of butternut might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people receiving butternut along with potassium-depleting diuretics might be at an increased risk for hypokalemia.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Your combination pill includes chlorthalidone, a water pill (diuretic) that makes your body get rid of extra fluid and salt. One thing chlorthalidone can do over time is lower your potassium level. Butternut bark works as a stimulant laxative, and laxatives can also cause you to lose potassium through your gut.

So the worry here is that the two together could pull your potassium down further than either alone. Low potassium can show up as muscle cramps, weakness, tiredness, or an irregular heartbeat. I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how each works, not something proven in studies, and occasional use likely matters less than regular heavy use. Still, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before pairing them.
