Enasidenib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Calamus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that calamus extract inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this one. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear out enasidenib (Idhifa). In lab dish studies, calamus appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, less of your enasidenib would get broken down, so more could build up in your blood. That could mean a higher chance of its known side effects, like nausea, diarrhea, low appetite, or changes in your bilirubin and other blood work.
I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only based on test-tube research, not human studies, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, with a serious leukemia medicine like this, I wouldn't take chances. Calamus also has its own safety concerns and is best avoided. Please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before combining them.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with Enasidenib (Idhifa). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this leukemia medication down. Lab studies suggest calamus can slow that same enzyme. If it does, your body may clear enasidenib a little more slowly, letting levels creep up and possibly making side effects more likely, things like nausea, diarrhea, low appetite, or elevated bilirubin. Enasidenib also carries a serious risk called differentiation syndrome, so anything that nudges levels higher is worth taking seriously.
That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, not proven in people. Calamus has its own safety problems and is best avoided anyway. Please don't change your cancer treatment, but do check with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

Calamus is a swamp plant with a long history in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, mostly for digestive and nervous-system complaints. However, it contains beta-asarone, a compound linked to cancer and other toxic effects in animal studies, which is why the U.S. FDA banned it from foods. Because of these safety concerns and a lack of solid human evidence, it is generally best avoided.

What Is Enasidenib Used For?
Brand name: Idhifa
Idhifa (enasidenib) is used to treat adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — a fast-moving cancer of the blood and bone marrow — whose disease has come back after treatment (relapsed) or has stopped responding to treatment (refractory). It is specifically for patients whose leukemia has a mutation in the IDH2 gene, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting therapy.
