Here's the simple version: bosentan (Tracleer) already works to relax and open up blood vessels in your lungs, which can nudge your blood pressure down. The concern on file is that catechu may also lower blood pressure a little, so taking the two together could in theory add up and leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or faint, especially when you stand up quickly.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is a theoretical worry based on lab and animal data, not real cases in people, so it may never cause a problem. Catechu does not change how bosentan is broken down, so it's really about a possible mild add-on effect. Still, before adding catechu, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Catechu is an astringent extract made from the heartwood of the Acacia (Senegalia) catechu tree, used traditionally for mouth sores, sore throat, diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Strong human evidence is lacking for most uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines.

About Bosentan

What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
