Here's the thing to keep in mind with Simponi (golimumab). It's a biologic medicine that quiets down an overactive immune system to ease joint pain and swelling. Catechu is rich in plant compounds (tannins and flavonoids) that, in lab dishes and animal studies, seem to nudge the immune system in their own way. The worry is that those two effects could pull against each other and make your golimumab work less predictably.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern only, based on how catechu behaves in test tubes and animals, not in real people taking this drug. So I don't want you to panic. Still, since golimumab is calming your immune system on purpose, it makes sense to run any catechu supplement past your pharmacist or rheumatologist before starting it.

Catechu is an astringent extract made from the heartwood of the Acacia (Senegalia) catechu tree, used traditionally for mouth sores, sore throat, diarrhea, and minor skin problems. Strong human evidence is lacking for most uses, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
