HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to emtricitabine, tenofovir
emtricitabine, tenofovir falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Chaparral interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: both chaparral and Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir) can be hard on the liver, so taking them together could add up and stress your liver more. This concern is theoretical and based mostly on scattered case reports, not solid studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, chaparral has been linked to serious, sometimes permanent liver damage, and the FDA has warned against using it.
Watch for signs your liver is unhappy: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness. Truvada itself rarely affects the liver, but stacking a risky supplement on top isn't worth it. My honest take? Skip the chaparral, and please check with your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

About Chaparral
What is Chaparral?
- Pain and inflammation
- Skin conditions
- Antioxidant/general wellness
- Infections
- Traditional 'detox' remedies
Chaparral is a desert shrub long used in traditional medicine, but there is no reliable proof it treats any condition.
