Here's the concern with combining chaparral and Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir with ritonavir). This isn't about chaparral changing how Paxlovid works in your bloodstream. Instead, both can be hard on the liver, so the worry is that the stress could add up. Ritonavir, the booster in Paxlovid, can occasionally bump up liver enzymes on its own, and chaparral has been tied to serious, sometimes lasting liver damage.

I'll be honest: this interaction is theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal reports, not solid studies. Still, since chaparral carries real liver risks even by itself, I'd steer clear of it. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Paxlovid is not approved to prevent COVID-19 before or after exposure. It is a treatment, not a preventive medication.
