Here's the simple version: Sparsentan (Filspari) already comes with its own warning about liver problems. In fact, it carries a boxed warning, and people on it need regular blood tests to watch their liver enzymes. Chaparral, on the other hand, has been tied to serious and sometimes permanent liver damage, which is why the FDA has cautioned against it.

Put the two together and the worry is that you'd be stacking two liver stressors on top of each other. This is a theoretical concern based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not a proven reaction, but with a drug like sparsentan I wouldn't take the chance. Signs of liver trouble include yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, or pain in the upper right belly. Please skip chaparral and check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
