Here's the simple version: both auranofin (Ridaura) and chenopodium oil can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Auranofin is a gold-based arthritis medicine that's already known to cause skin reactions and rashes in some people, including a higher chance of sunburn. Chenopodium plants have also been linked to photosensitivity. Stack the two together and, in theory, you might burn faster or react more strongly in the sun.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's theoretical, based on how these two behave rather than real reports of trouble. This isn't auranofin being broken down differently, it's just two sun-sensitizers adding up. Since chenopodium oil can be toxic anyway, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Chenopodium oil is a strong-smelling essential oil from the epazote plant that was historically used to treat intestinal worms. It contains ascaridole, a compound that is quite toxic, and overdoses have caused serious harm, so it is no longer recommended for internal use. Safer modern deworming medicines exist, so talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using this oil.

What Is Auranofin Used For?

Brand name: Ridaura

Auranofin capsules — sold as both Ridaura and Auranofin — are used to manage active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Specifically, they're for people whose arthritis hasn't improved enough with full doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen, or who couldn't tolerate those medicines.

It works best alongside a full treatment program — not as a stand-alone fix. It's important to know that it doesn't work quickly: you may not notice improvement for three to six months, and it cannot reverse joint or bone damage that has already occurred.
