Here's the gist of this pairing: both chenopodium oil and risperidone can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Risperidone is known to occasionally cause photosensitivity, meaning you might sunburn faster than usual. Plants in the chenopodium family carry that same reputation. Put them together and, in theory, your skin could react more strongly to UV light, leaving you prone to quicker burning or a rash on sun-exposed areas.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not something proven in studies. It doesn't change how risperidone works in your brain. Practical steps like sunscreen and protective clothing go a long way. Since chenopodium oil itself can be quite toxic internally, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Chenopodium oil is a strong-smelling essential oil from the epazote plant that was historically used to treat intestinal worms. It contains ascaridole, a compound that is quite toxic, and overdoses have caused serious harm, so it is no longer recommended for internal use. Safer modern deworming medicines exist, so talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using this oil.

What Is Risperidone Used For?

Brand names: Risperdal, Perseris

Risperidone is prescribed for three main conditions: schizophrenia (a disorder affecting how a person thinks, feels, and perceives reality), acute manic or mixed episodes in Bipolar I Disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder — including aggression, self-injury, temper tantrums, and rapid mood swings.

For bipolar mania, it can be used alone or alongside lithium or valproate. It is approved for use in both adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents, depending on the condition being treated.
