Enalapril Maleate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Coca interacts with.

Theoretically, coca might reduce the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research suggests that coca and the coca constituent cocaine have hypertensive effects. Theoretically, concomitant use of coca with antihypertensive drugs might interfere with blood pressure control and decrease the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.

Here's the simple version: enalapril works to relax your blood vessels and bring your blood pressure down. Coca leaves contain cocaine and related stimulant alkaloids that tend to do the opposite, tightening blood vessels and pushing blood pressure (and heart rate) up. So using coca alongside your enalapril could work against the medication and make it harder to keep your numbers in a healthy range.

This is mostly a theoretical concern backed by some lower quality research, so I'm not trying to alarm you. Still, given that coca can raise blood pressure, it could blunt the benefit you're getting from enalapril. If you're considering coca in any concentrated form, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first so your blood pressure stays well controlled.

Coca is a South American plant best known as the natural source of cocaine. While the leaves have a long history of traditional use for altitude sickness, fatigue, and hunger, the whole plant contains cocaine and other alkaloids that make it legally controlled and potentially dangerous in most countries. Only decocainized (cocaine-free) coca extract is used in foods, and there is little reliable evidence to recommend coca as a supplement.

About Enalapril

What Is Enalapril Used For?

Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned

Enalapril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children older than one month, and to treat symptomatic heart failure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

It is also used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction — when the heart's pumping ability is reduced but the person doesn't yet have obvious heart failure symptoms — to slow the progression to overt heart failure and reduce hospitalizations. Enalapril maleate oral solution (including Epaned) and enalapril maleate tablets (including Vasotec) share these three approved uses.
