CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, Naproxen Sodium falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Corn Poppy interacts with.
Animal research suggests that corn poppy leaf extract has sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing with Aleve PM: the PM part is diphenhydramine, the same sleepy antihistamine you find in Benadryl. It already slows down your brain to help you drift off, which is why it can leave you groggy, foggy, dizzy, or dry-mouthed the next morning. Corn poppy has been studied mostly in animals, where its plant compounds appeared to have a mild calming, sedative effect.
So in theory, pairing the two could stack drowsiness on top of drowsiness, leaving you more sluggish or unsteady than you'd expect. To be fair, the evidence here is weak and not proven in people, so I wouldn't panic. Still, I'd be careful about driving or anything that needs sharp focus, and I'd run the combo by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Corn Poppy
What is Corn Poppy?
- Cough and sore throat
- Sleep and restlessness
- Mild pain
- Anxiety and nervousness
- Digestive complaints
Corn poppy is a red-flowered plant traditionally used in teas and syrups for cough, sleep, and mild pain. Solid human research is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven, and unlike its relative the opium poppy, it contains only small amounts of weak alkaloids. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
