No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Creatine and Atorvastatin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Creatine and Atorvastatin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Atorvastatin and Creatine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Creatine at all — not against Atorvastatin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Creatine safety at a glance

Creatine overall Use caution Generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but those with kidney issues should be careful.
Pregnancy Avoid Safety during pregnancy has not been established, so it is best avoided.
Breastfeeding Avoid There is not enough safety information for nursing mothers, so avoid use.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

“Isolated cases of renal dysfunction in patients taking creatine have been reported, including a case of interstitial nephritis in a healthy male and a case of renal insufficiency in a football player. In contrast to these cases, several clinical studies and case reports have shown that creatine does not affect markers of renal function in healthy adults.”

  • Severe muscle breakdown Worth acting on Additional detail

“Creatine-associated increase in body mass is well documented in randomized, controlled clinical trials and is often as large as 1-2 kg during the five-day loading period of creatine. This may be considered an unwanted adverse reaction in some individuals and a desired effect of supplementation in others. This weight gain may interfere with mass-dependent activities such as running and swimming.”

  • Dehydration Worth acting on Additional detail

“Some research suggests that creatine supplementation can cause edema. In a randomized controlled trial, 26% of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) receiving creatine 10 grams daily reported edema after 2 months of treatment compared to 9% with placebo. The difference between groups was statistically significant at 2 months but not at month 4 and beyond.”

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Atorvastatin page

“Grapefruit is the entry to understand first. Atorvastatin (Atorvaliq) is cleared by an enzyme called CYP3A4, and grapefruit blocks that enzyme, letting statin levels climb along with the risk of side effects like muscle pain.”

About Creatine

What is Creatine?

Creatine
  • Improving high-intensity exercise performance
  • Building muscle strength and size
  • Sports and athletic training
  • Recovery from workouts
  • Possible support for brain and cognitive function

Creatine is one of the most studied sports supplements, with solid evidence that it can boost strength and performance during short, high-intensity activities like weightlifting and sprinting. It is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though it can cause water retention and minor stomach upset. People with kidney problems and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should check with a doctor before using it.

Not applicable (a compound made in the body and found in meat and fish) · Powder, capsules, tablets, chewables, and drink mixes

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Creatine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Creatine record says about it on its own.

Creatine: dosing

There is no single official dose for everyone, and the right amount can depend on your body size, diet, and goals. Many products suggest an optional short 'loading' period followed by a smaller daily 'maintenance' amount, but a steady daily approach also works for building muscle creatine over time. The best advice is to follow the directions on the product label and choose a reputable brand, ideally one tested by a third party. Creatine monohydrate is the most studied and usually the most affordable form.

About Atorvastatin

What Is Atorvastatin Used For?

Brand name: Atorvaliq

Atorvastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, triglycerides (blood fats), and other harmful lipids, while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol. It treats primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal blood fats), hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides), and inherited conditions such as heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia — including in children aged 10 and older.

Beyond cholesterol control, atorvastatin is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina (chest pain) in adults with coronary heart disease or multiple risk factors for it — including adults with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for heart disease even without a confirmed heart disease diagnosis.
