QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Norfloxacin
Norfloxacin falls under QUINOLONE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Dandelion interacts with.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing dandelion and norfloxacin. Norfloxacin is an active antibiotic (not a prodrug), so it works once your gut absorbs it into your bloodstream. The worry is that dandelion may grab onto the drug in your stomach and keep less of it from being absorbed, which could leave you with lower antibiotic levels.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this comes from animal studies using a cousin drug (ciprofloxacin), and it has never actually been reported in people. Still, if too little norfloxacin gets in, your infection might not clear the way it should. To be safe, talk with your pharmacist about spacing dandelion supplements apart from your doses, and don't change anything on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norfloxacin page
“The major entries on this page are the ones to understand first. With norfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic usually prescribed for urinary tract infections, the biggest risks don't add side effects, they stop the drug from working.”

About Dandelion
What is Dandelion?
- Water retention (diuretic)
- Digestive upset
- Liver and gallbladder support
- Mild appetite stimulant
- Skin conditions
Dandelion is a common plant used in food and traditional medicine, often promoted as a natural 'water pill' and digestive aid. Human evidence for these uses is very limited, so its benefits are not well proven. It is generally considered safe as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you have allergies or take other medicines.
