Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, Voxilaprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Eucalyptus interacts with.

Theoretically, eucalyptus might increase the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here's the short version: the concern on file is that eucalyptus oil might slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which could let drugs that depend on it build up a bit. But this is only a test-tube finding. It has never actually been seen in people, so I'd put it in the 'theoretical' bucket rather than something to lose sleep over.

On top of that, Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir) is mainly handled by other pathways and transporters, not primarily CYP1A2, so a real-world problem here is unlikely. Smelling eucalyptus or using a vapor rub almost certainly won't matter. Eucalyptus oil should never be swallowed regardless. If you're using a concentrated eucalyptus supplement, just run it by your pharmacist while you're on hepatitis C treatment.

If you're taking Vosevi (sofosbuvir, velpatasvir, voxilaprevir) for hepatitis C, here's the gist. Lab studies hint that eucalyptus oil might block an enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps clear part of this combo (especially the velpatasvir and voxilaprevir pieces) from your body. If that enzyme is slowed, those drug levels could theoretically creep up, which might mean a bit more headache, nausea, tiredness, or diarrhea.

I want to keep this in perspective: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in real people, so it's theoretical. Breathing in a vapor rub or sucking a lozenge is very unlikely to matter. Just don't swallow eucalyptus oil, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any concentrated form while on Vosevi.

What Is Sofosbuvir, Velpatasvir, and Voxilaprevir Used For?

Brand name: Vosevi

Vosevi is used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults who do not have cirrhosis or who have compensated cirrhosis (mild liver scarring that is still functioning). It is specifically for people who have already been treated with an HCV regimen before and need a different option.

Vosevi is approved for adults with HCV genotype 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 who previously took a medicine that included an NS5A inhibitor. It is also approved for adults with genotype 1a or 3 who previously took sofosbuvir without an NS5A inhibitor.
