ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Aclidinium Bromide
Aclidinium Bromide falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group European Barberry interacts with.
In vitro evidence suggests that European barberry might have anticholinergic properties.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your inhaler: Aclidinium (Tudorza Pressair) is an anticholinergic, meaning it works by blocking a chemical messenger called acetylcholine to help open up your airways. Some lab studies hint that European barberry, through its berberine content, may have mild anticholinergic activity of its own. In theory, stacking the two could add up and nudge those anticholinergic side effects a little higher.
What might that feel like? Things like dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, or trouble urinating. I want to be honest, though, that this is theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real-world reports. Since aclidinium is inhaled and mostly stays in the lungs, the overlap is likely small. Still, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before adding a barberry supplement.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aclidinium Bromide page
“Aclidinium Bromide (Tudorza Pressair) is an inhaled anticholinergic that keeps the airways open in COPD, and every one of the 30 supplements on this page acts on that same anticholinergic system. Two of them, henbane and scopolia, are rated major because their atropine-like alkaloids can pile onto the drug's effects with real force.”

About European Barberry
What is European Barberry?
- Digestive upset
- Antimicrobial support
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol and metabolic support
- Skin conditions
European barberry is a shrub whose root, bark, and berries contain berberine, a bitter plant alkaloid that has been studied mostly in isolated form. Some early research on berberine is promising for blood sugar and cholesterol, but high-quality evidence for the whole barberry herb is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
