Here's the gist for your sodium valproate (Epilim). This medicine already tends to make people feel drowsy or a bit foggy, especially when you first start it. European barberry contains berberine, and in animal studies berberine seemed to have a mild calming or sedative effect. So the worry here is simple: putting the two together might pile on a little extra sleepiness or tiredness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this. It's theoretical, based on lab and animal work, not human studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, if you notice more drowsiness, dizziness, or trouble concentrating, that's worth mentioning. Please don't change your valproate dose on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding barberry.
