Sonidegib Phosphate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group European Barberry interacts with.

Theoretically, European barberry might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
There is very preliminary evidence suggesting that berberine, a constituent of European barberry, might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. Theoretically, European barberry might have a similar effect.

Here's the gist for Odomzo (sonidegib): your liver relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down and keep its level steady. Berberine, the main active compound in European barberry, may gently slow that same enzyme. If that happens, sonidegib could clear more slowly and build up higher than expected.

With this cancer drug, more in your system can mean more of its known side effects, things like muscle spasms or cramps, muscle pain, raised muscle enzymes, nausea, fatigue, or hair loss. To be clear, this concern is theoretical and comes from very early lab work, not real patient cases, so it may never cause trouble. Still, since sonidegib is a serious medication, please run barberry or any berberine supplement by your oncologist or pharmacist before combining them.
