Trazodone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group European Barberry interacts with.

Theoretically, European barberry might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
There is very preliminary evidence suggesting that berberine, a constituent of European barberry, might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. Theoretically, European barberry might have a similar effect.

Here's the gist for you. Trazodone is cleared from your body mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Berberine, the main active compound in European barberry, may slow that enzyme down. If it does, your trazodone could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which can nudge its effects and side effects upward. With trazodone that usually means more drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure (feeling lightheaded when you stand), or a groggy, hungover feeling the next morning.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is a theoretical concern based on lab-type pharmacology, not real patient reports, so for most people it stays mild. Still, before pairing barberry supplements with trazodone, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
