Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fennel interacts with.

Theoretically, fennel might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

In vitro research suggests that fennel inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear capmatinib (Tabrecta) out of your system. Lab studies hint that fennel may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, capmatinib could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of its usual side effects, things like nausea, swelling in the hands or feet, tiredness, or changes in your liver tests.

The important part is that this is only seen in test-tube research, not in people, so the real-world risk is likely small. Eating fennel as a food or spice is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated fennel supplements or the essential oil are a different story, so check with your oncology pharmacist or doctor before using those alongside this cancer medicine.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
