Theoretically, fo-ti may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that fo-ti may inhibit CYP2C9. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Fo-ti and dronabinol. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear dronabinol out. Lab and animal studies hint that Fo-ti may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, dronabinol could hang around longer and build up, which might mean stronger effects like dizziness, drowsiness, a 'high' or spacey feeling, confusion, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical. It has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in humans, so it may not amount to much. Still, since dronabinol already affects your brain, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and keep an eye out for extra grogginess.

Dronabinol also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, fo-ti might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research suggests that fo-ti might inhibit CYP3A4. One in vitro study suggests that the degree of CYP3A4 inhibition may depend on the type of fo-ti extract (i.e., the raw plant leads to greater inhibition than extensively processed extracts). However, this evidence conflicts with animal research suggesting that fo-ti does not inhibit CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for dronabinol (Marinol, Syndros): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down. Lab studies hint that Fo-ti, especially the raw root, might slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, dronabinol could clear out of your body a bit slower and build up, which means stronger drug effects.

For dronabinol, that could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, a racing heart, feeling foggy or high, or even some confusion or paranoia. That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, animal studies didn't agree, and it's never been reported in actual people. So I wouldn't panic, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

What Is Dronabinol Used For?

Brand names: Marinol, Syndros

Dronabinol — available as capsules (Marinol, Dronabinol) and as an oral solution (Syndros, Dronabinol oral solution) — is approved for two conditions in adults. First, it treats anorexia (severely reduced appetite) associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS. Second, it controls nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy in patients who have not gotten enough relief from standard anti-nausea treatments.

Both uses apply to all available formulations, but dosing timing and meal instructions differ between the capsule and oral solution products. Always follow the specific instructions for the product you have been prescribed.
