Here's the gist with Fo-ti and Metformin XR. Some reports suggest Fo-ti may have its own mild blood-sugar-lowering effect. Since metformin already works to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two could, in theory, push your numbers a little lower than expected. That might show up as the usual low-sugar signs: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, headache, or feeling unusually hungry or irritable.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these things might behave, not on solid human studies. Metformin by itself rarely causes true lows. Still, if you take both, it's reasonable to keep an eye on your readings and mention it to your pharmacist or doctor. And given Fo-ti has been tied to liver injury, that's worth a chat too.
