Here's the gist of this one: both Fo-ti and Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) can occasionally be hard on the liver. Bactrim itself, while usually well tolerated, is one of the antibiotics known to sometimes cause liver irritation. Fo-ti has shown up in a number of case reports of liver injury too. So the worry is simply that stacking two things that each stress the liver could raise your odds of a problem.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical and based mostly on anecdotal reports, not strong studies. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, nausea, or unusual tiredness. Bactrim is also a short-term antibiotic, so a simple option is to pause Fo-ti during your course. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, fo-ti may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that fo-ti may inhibit CYP2C9. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist if you take Fo-ti alongside Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim). The sulfamethoxazole part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. In test-tube and animal studies, Fo-ti appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If it did the same in people, this antibiotic could build up slightly and its effects, both good and bad, could be a touch stronger.

What that might look like with Bactrim: more nausea, skin rash or sun sensitivity, or changes in potassium. I'll be honest with you though, this is theoretical. It has not actually been seen in humans, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Since Bactrim courses are usually short, just let your pharmacist or doctor know you take Fo-ti and watch for any unusual reactions.
