Valsartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Fo-ti interacts with.

Theoretically, fo-ti may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that fo-ti may inhibit CYP2C9. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Lab and animal studies hint that Fo-ti may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the enzymes that helps your body clear Valsartan. If that enzyme works more slowly, a bit more Valsartan could linger in your system. Valsartan is not a prodrug, so more of it usually means a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect.

In plain terms, that could mean dizziness, lightheadedness (especially standing up), or feeling unusually tired if your pressure drops too low. The honest part: this has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in people, so the real-world risk looks small. Still, since Fo-ti has also been linked to liver issues, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
