Fucus Vesiculosus + Amlodipine Besylate
Amlodipine Besylate brand name: Norvasc.
Fucus Vesiculosus has a minor interaction with Amlodipine Besylate. Theoretically, concomitant use of Fucus vesiculosus with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the risk for adverse effects.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Amlodipine Besylate
Amlodipine Besylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fucus Vesiculosus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that fucoidan, a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with bladderwrack and your amlodipine. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear amlodipine out of your system. One compound in bladderwrack, fucoidan, has been shown in lab dish studies to slow that enzyme down. In theory, if that enzyme works slower, more amlodipine could linger, which might nudge up its usual effects like dizziness, flushing, headache, or swelling in your ankles.
The important part: this has never actually been reported in real people, only in test tubes, so it's a weak, theoretical concern. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since bladderwrack also carries a lot of iodine and can stir up other issues, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

About Fucus Vesiculosus
What is Fucus Vesiculosus?
- Thyroid support
- Iodine source
- Weight management
- Joint and skin care (topical)
- Constipation and digestive support
Fucus vesiculosus (bladderwrack) is a brown seaweed rich in iodine that has been used traditionally for thyroid concerns, weight, and skin. There is little solid human evidence to support most of these uses, and its high and variable iodine content can actually harm the thyroid. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a thyroid condition.
About Amlodipine
What Is Amlodipine Used For?
Brand name: Norvasc
Amlodipine lowers high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or with other blood pressure or angina medicines.
It is also used for chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina), and angiographically documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or an ejection fraction below 40%. The Sdamlo oral solution label lists the high blood pressure use for adults and children 6 years and older, and the coronary artery disease uses for adults.
