Apixaban falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fucus Vesiculosus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that fucoidan, a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Eliquis (apixaban). Your body partly clears apixaban using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. A compound in bladderwrack (fucoidan) has slowed that enzyme down in lab dish studies. In theory, slowing it could let a bit more apixaban linger in your system, which might nudge up the main risk with any blood thinner: easier bruising or bleeding (think nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood that's slow to stop).
That said, this has only been seen in test tubes, never in real people, and it's rated minor. So I wouldn't panic. But since apixaban keeps clots and strokes in check, even small shifts deserve a quick chat. Please run any bladderwrack supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

In vitro evidence suggests that a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, known as fucoidan, has anticoagulant effects. However, in clinical research, fucoidan does not seem to have significant anticoagulant activity when taken orally, possibly due to poor absorption.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist with Eliquis (apixaban) and bladderwrack. Apixaban is already a blood thinner that blocks a clotting protein called factor Xa, so it works as-is (it's not a prodrug that needs activating). The concern with bladderwrack is one of its compounds, fucoidan, which in lab dish studies looked like it could thin the blood a little. Stacked on top of apixaban, the worry is slightly more bruising or bleeding, like nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bruises that show up easily.
The reassuring part: when people actually swallow fucoidan, it's poorly absorbed and hasn't shown real blood-thinning effects in human studies. So this is mostly theoretical and unlikely. Still, since apixaban bleeding is serious, run any bladderwrack supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Apixaban Used For?
Brand name: Eliquis
Apixaban is used to reduce the risk of stroke and dangerous clots traveling through the body in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). It is also used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in the leg) in adults after hip or knee replacement surgery, and to treat DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE — a blood clot in the lungs) in adults, including reducing the risk of those clots coming back.
Eliquis (the brand-name tablet and kit) is additionally approved to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE — blood clots in the veins) and reduce the risk of recurrent VTE in pediatric patients from birth and older, after at least 5 days of initial anticoagulant treatment. The generic apixaban tablet carries the adult indications only.
