Insulin Glulisine (rDNA) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ginger interacts with.
Animal and human research suggests that ginger might increase insulin levels and/or decrease blood glucose levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a fast-acting insulin that already lowers your blood sugar, and ginger may nudge your sugar a little lower on its own. Put the two together and, in theory, your blood sugar could dip more than you'd expect, leading to hypoglycemia. That can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.
I want to keep this in perspective, though. This concern comes mostly from lab and animal work, so the evidence is on the weaker side. A little ginger in your cooking or tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated ginger supplements are where I'd pay closer attention. Please don't change your insulin on your own. Just keep an eye on your sugar readings and check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a ginger supplement.
