ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Insulin Glulisine (rDNA)
Insulin Glulisine (rDNA) falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Agaricus Mushroom interacts with.
In one clinical study in patients with type 2 diabetes who are stabilized on conventional oral hypoglycemic agents, 3 of 29 patients taking an agaricus mushroom extract 500 mg three times daily for 12 weeks reported hypoglycemia, compared to one of 29 patients in the placebo group.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Apidra (insulin glulisine) and agaricus mushroom. Agaricus may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own. Since glulisine is a fast-acting mealtime insulin that already brings your sugar down, stacking the two could push it down a little too far. That means a higher chance of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), which can show up as shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or feeling lightheaded.
Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical pharmacology, and the one small study only saw a few extra cases of low sugar. If you'd like to try agaricus, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch your readings more closely at the start. Don't change your insulin dose on your own.

Brand name: Apidra
Apidra and Apidra SoloStar are used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adult and pediatric patients with diabetes mellitus. This includes both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
