Agaricus Mushroom and Bendamustine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Bendamustine and Agaricus Mushroom in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Bendamustine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Bendamustine is filed under 4 classifications — including alkylating agents, antineoplastics, cytochrome p450 1a2 (cyp1a2) substrates. Agaricus Mushroom has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Bendamustine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Bendamustine Is Prescribed For, and What Agaricus Mushroom Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Bendamustine is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Agaricus Mushroom is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Bendamustine is prescribed for: Bendamustine hydrochloride injection is used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is also used for adults with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) — a slow-growing type of blood cancer — when the disease has continued to progress during or within six months of treatment with rituximab or a rituximab-containing regimen. For CLL, how well bendamustine works compared to other first-line treatments (aside from chlorambucil) has not been fully established.

Agaricus Mushroom has been studied for:

  • Cancer studied, not established Agaricus Mushroom has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Agaricus Mushroom for cancer

Although there is interest in using oral agaricus mushroom for the treatment of various types of cancer, there is insufficient reliable information about the clinical effects of agaricus mushroom for this purpose.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Bendamustine on your own; if you are taking Agaricus Mushroom for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

This page covers Agaricus Mushroom only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Bendamustine page lists 87 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bendamustine page

“Bendamustine (Treanda, Belrapzo, Vivimusta) is IV chemotherapy for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and certain lymphomas, and the liver clears it through an enzyme called CYP1A2. That enzyme is why nearly all 87 supplements on this page appear here, since about 80 of them can push CYP1A2 up or down, which could either raise side effects o…”

About Agaricus Mushroom

What is Agaricus Mushroom?

  • Immune support
  • General wellness and antioxidant
  • Adjunct interest during cancer care
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol and heart health

Agaricus mushroom (often Agaricus blazei/subrufescens) is a culinary and medicinal mushroom studied mostly for possible immune and antioxidant effects. The human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it for treating any disease. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you have a health condition or take other medicines.

Agaricus subrufescens · Agaricaceae · Fruiting body (mushroom), sometimes mycelium · Capsules, tablets, powders, dried mushroom, liquid extracts, teas

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Agaricus Mushroom is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Agaricus Mushroom record says about it on its own.

Agaricus Mushroom: dosing

There is no established standard dose for Agaricus mushroom supplements. Studies have used different products and amounts, so it is hard to recommend one specific dose.If you choose to use it, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount. Choosing products from reputable companies that test for purity is wise, since supplements are not tightly regulated.
