Glucomannan + Metoprolol
Metoprolol brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL.
Glucomannan has a moderate interaction with Metoprolol. Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Metoprolol
Metoprolol falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Glucomannan interacts with.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing with glucomannan and your metoprolol: this fiber swells into a thick gel in your gut, and that gel can grab onto pills and slow down how much of the medicine actually gets absorbed. For metoprolol, which controls blood pressure, heart rate, and chest pain, soaking up less of the dose could mean it doesn't work as well. You might notice your blood pressure or heart rate creeping back up, or more angina symptoms.
The good news is this is easy to manage. Most experts suggest taking glucomannan about 30 to 60 minutes after your metoprolol so the timing keeps them apart. The evidence here is modest and partly theoretical, so don't panic, but please run your plan by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Metoprolol page
“With metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), a beta-blocker for high blood pressure and heart problems, these interactions deserve genuine care, starting with the five rated major. Most entries pull blood pressure one way or the other: many supplements add to metoprolol's lowering effect and can drop pressure too far, while a few, tyramine…”

About Glucomannan
What is Glucomannan?
- Weight loss and appetite control
- Constipation
- High cholesterol
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive health
Glucomannan is a soluble fiber from the konjac root that swells into a gel in your stomach, which may help with mild weight loss, constipation, and modestly lowering cholesterol. It is generally well tolerated when taken with plenty of water, but it must be taken carefully because it can swell and cause choking or blockage if not swallowed properly. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you have a health condition or take medicines.
About Metoprolol
What Is Metoprolol Used For?
Brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL
Metoprolol is used to treat several heart and blood pressure conditions. Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL) are approved for high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain from the heart), and heart failure. Metoprolol tartrate tablets (including Lopressor) are approved for high blood pressure, angina, and — when used alongside intravenous metoprolol — to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death after a definite or suspected heart attack.
Metoprolol tartrate injection (intravenous form) is used in hemodynamically stable patients with a definite or suspected acute heart attack to reduce cardiovascular death, and is followed by oral metoprolol therapy. Lowering blood pressure with metoprolol reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Metoprolol Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Metoprolol as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Glucomannan — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
