Olmesartan Medoxomil falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Glucomannan interacts with.

Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.

Here's the simple version: glucomannan is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when it's sitting in your stomach and intestines at the same time as your olmesartan (Benicar), it may grab onto some of the pill and keep your body from absorbing all of it. If less olmesartan gets in, your blood pressure medicine might not work as well, so your numbers could creep up.

This is mostly a timing issue, not a reason to avoid the fiber. The easy fix is spacing: take your olmesartan first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your glucomannan. The evidence here is modest (small human and animal studies on other drugs), so don't panic, but do mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your blood pressure readings.

What Is Olmesartan Used For?

Brand names: Olmesartan Medoxomil, Benicar

Olmesartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and older. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is available as Benicar and as generic olmesartan medoxomil tablets, including a combination tablet with hydrochlorothiazide. All of these products are used for high blood pressure.
