HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Felbamate
Felbamate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing greater celandine with felbamate. This isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. The concern is that both can be tough on the liver. Felbamate already carries a known risk of liver injury, which is why doctors monitor it closely. Greater celandine has been tied to multiple reports of liver damage on its own. Stacking the two could add up and raise the chance of a problem.
To be fair, this is based on case reports and theory, not strong studies, so I don't want to overstate it. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Felbamate page
“Felbamate (Felbatol) is a seizure medicine usually reserved for epilepsy that other drugs have failed to control, in part because it can stress the liver on its own. That history is why its 172 supplement and herbal interactions deserve real vigilance, starting with the 14 rated major.”

About Greater Celandine
What is Greater Celandine?
- Digestive and gallbladder complaints
- Stomach cramps and bloating
- Topical use for warts and skin growths
- Liver and gallbladder 'cleansing'
- Mild pain relief
Greater celandine is a traditional herb most often promoted for digestive and gallbladder complaints, but solid human evidence for any use is lacking. More importantly, it has been linked to serious and sometimes severe liver injury, so most experts advise against taking it by mouth. If you are considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

- Partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in children, as an add-on medicine
This applies to Felbatol and to felbamate oral suspension and tablets.
