Fenfluramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.

Research in vitro shows that chelidonine, a constituent of greater celandine, inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzyme activity. Theoretically, greater celandine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and many others.

Here's the gist for fenfluramine (Pondimin). Your body partly clears this seizure medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Greater celandine contains a compound (chelidonine) that, at least in test-tube studies, can slow that same enzyme down. If it does the same thing in people, fenfluramine could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, loss of appetite, tiredness, or a faster heartbeat.

Keep this in perspective. This concern comes only from lab data, not human studies, so it's theoretical. Honestly, the bigger worry is that greater celandine has been tied to serious liver injury, so I'd steer clear of it. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Pondimin

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
