Infliximab-Abda falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.

There is some concern that greater celandine can adversely affect the liver. Greater celandine has been linked to many cases of hepatotoxicity. Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage. Some of these drugs include acarbose (Precose, Prandase), amiodarone (Cordarone), atorvastatin (Lipitor), azathioprine (Imuran), carbamazepine (Tegretol), cerivastatin (Baycol), diclofenac (Voltaren), felbamate (Felbatol), fenofibrate (TriCor), fluvastatin (Lescol), gemfibrozil (Lopid), isoniazid, itraconazole, (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), leflunomide (Arava), lovastatin (Mevacor), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), nevirapine (Viramune), niacin, nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin), pioglitazone (Actos), pravastatin (Pravachol), pyrazinamide, rifampin (Rifadin), ritonavir (Norvir), rosiglitazone (Avandia), simvastatin (Zocor), tacrine (Cognex), tamoxifen, terbinafine (Lamisil), valproic acid, and zileuton (Zyflo).

Here's the simple version: greater celandine has been tied to real cases of liver injury, and Renflexis (infliximab-abda) can also stress the liver in some people. Putting two liver-stressing things together may add up and raise your chances of trouble. This isn't about celandine changing how the drug works, it's about both being hard on the same organ.

Watch for signs your liver isn't happy: yellowing of your skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain on the upper right side, nausea, or unusual tiredness. To be honest, the evidence here is mostly anecdotal, and most experts already advise against celandine because of its liver risks. Please don't start or stop anything on your own, just loop in your doctor or pharmacist first.

Infliximab-Abda also falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS.

Preliminary clinical research suggests that taking a specific semi-synthetic derivative of the greater celandine constituent chelidonine (Ukrain; not available in North America) might stimulate immune responses in cancer patients. Theoretically, taking greater celandine might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the concern with pairing greater celandine and Renflexis (infliximab-abda). Infliximab is a biologic that works by calming down an overactive immune system, which is exactly what helps conditions like Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and psoriasis. Greater celandine, on the other hand, may nudge the immune system in the opposite direction (stimulating it). So in theory, the herb could work against your medication and weaken the calming effect you're counting on.

This is a theoretical worry, based mostly on a related lab-made compound rather than greater celandine itself, so the real-world risk is unclear. Still, if your immune system gets revved up, you could see your underlying flare return: more joint pain, gut symptoms, or skin problems. On top of that, greater celandine has been tied to serious liver injury, which is its own reason to be cautious. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
