Interferon Gamma-1b falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.

There is some concern that greater celandine can adversely affect the liver. Greater celandine has been linked to many cases of hepatotoxicity. Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage. Some of these drugs include acarbose (Precose, Prandase), amiodarone (Cordarone), atorvastatin (Lipitor), azathioprine (Imuran), carbamazepine (Tegretol), cerivastatin (Baycol), diclofenac (Voltaren), felbamate (Felbatol), fenofibrate (TriCor), fluvastatin (Lescol), gemfibrozil (Lopid), isoniazid, itraconazole, (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), leflunomide (Arava), lovastatin (Mevacor), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), nevirapine (Viramune), niacin, nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin), pioglitazone (Actos), pravastatin (Pravachol), pyrazinamide, rifampin (Rifadin), ritonavir (Norvir), rosiglitazone (Avandia), simvastatin (Zocor), tacrine (Cognex), tamoxifen, terbinafine (Lamisil), valproic acid, and zileuton (Zyflo).

Here's the simple version: this isn't about one drug changing how the other is broken down. Instead, it's about two things that can each be tough on the liver landing at the same time. Greater celandine has been tied to real cases of liver injury, and interferon gamma-1b can also raise liver enzymes and stress the liver in some people. Stack them together and you may add to that strain.

To be honest, the evidence here is mostly anecdotal, so this is a theoretical concern rather than a proven one. Still, since both can affect the liver, I'd be cautious. Watch for warning signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Interferon Gamma-1b Injection Used For?

Brand name: Actimmune

Actimmune (interferon gamma-1b) is approved for two specific inherited conditions. First, it reduces how often and how severely serious infections occur in people with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) — a rare inherited disorder where certain immune cells can't fight off infections properly.

Second, Actimmune is used to delay disease progression in patients with severe, malignant osteopetrosis (SMO) — a rare inherited bone disorder where bones become abnormally dense and the immune system doesn't work as it should.
