Why this applies to Zuclopenthizol

Zuclopenthizol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.

Research in vitro shows that chelidonine, a constituent of greater celandine, inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzyme activity. Theoretically, greater celandine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and many others.

Zuclopenthixol (Clopixol) is an antipsychotic that your liver partly clears using an enzyme called CYP2D6. Greater celandine contains a compound (chelidonine) that, at least in lab tests, appears to slow this same enzyme down. If that happens in real life, your body could clear zuclopenthixol a little less efficiently, letting levels creep up. That could mean more of its usual side effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, stiffness, restlessness, or other movement-related effects.

Keep this in perspective: the evidence here is only from test-tube and animal work, not people, so it is theoretical. Honestly, the bigger concern with greater celandine is that it has been linked to serious liver damage, so most experts advise against taking it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Preliminary clinical research suggests that taking a specific semi-synthetic derivative of the greater celandine constituent chelidonine (Ukrain; not available in North America) might stimulate immune responses in cancer patients. Theoretically, taking greater celandine might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's something worth clearing up: Zuclopenthixol (Clopixol) is an antipsychotic, not an immunosuppressant. It works on dopamine in the brain to help with conditions like schizophrenia. So the interaction on file, which is about greater celandine theoretically firing up the immune system and weakening immune-suppressing medicines, doesn't really apply to how Clopixol works. This particular concern looks like a category mismatch.

That said, greater celandine has a real and serious downside of its own: it has been tied to severe liver injury. Since your body still has to process Clopixol, I'd be cautious adding anything that stresses the liver. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.
