Here's the thing to keep in mind with chlorpropamide and guar gum. That gel guar gum forms in your stomach can grab onto your medicine and slow down how much of it actually gets absorbed. Since chlorpropamide works directly as it is (it's not a prodrug that needs activating), less absorption could mean a weaker blood-sugar-lowering effect, and your numbers may run a little higher than expected.

The evidence here comes from studies on similar oral drugs, so it's a reasonable concern rather than a sure thing. An easy fix is timing: take your chlorpropamide first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Food-sized amounts of guar gum in your diet aren't likely to matter much. Before changing anything, run it by your pharmacist or doctor, and keep an eye on your blood sugar readings.
