Here's the gist with etodolac and guar gum. That gel-forming fiber can grab onto medications in your stomach and slow or lower how much gets absorbed. For a pain and inflammation drug like etodolac, less absorption could mean it just doesn't work as well, so your arthritis aches, swelling, or stiffness might not settle the way you'd expect.

The good news is this is easy to manage. Etodolac is not a prodrug, so we're simply talking about timing. Take your etodolac first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum supplement, and always wash the fiber down with plenty of water. Food amounts of guar gum are unlikely to be a problem. If your pain control changes, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Etodolac Used For?

Etodolac capsules and tablets are used to manage the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, both short-term and long-term. They are also used for acute pain relief.

Etodolac extended-release tablets are indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile arthritis (in patients aged 6 to 16).
