Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can grab onto medications in your stomach and slow or lower how much gets absorbed. With fenfluramine, that could mean a little less of the medicine reaches the bloodstream, and since fenfluramine is helping control seizures in Dravet or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, even small dips in absorption are worth taking seriously.

This isn't a dangerous chemical clash, just a timing issue. The easy fix is spacing them out: take your fenfluramine first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the guar gum. Food amounts of guar are unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements can. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything, especially since seizure control is on the line.

What Is Fenfluramine Used For?

Brand name: Pondimin

Fintepla (fenfluramine oral solution) is approved to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients 2 years of age and older. It is used alongside other antiseizure medications.

Both conditions are severe, often hard-to-control forms of epilepsy that typically begin in childhood. Fintepla is available only through a restricted program called the Fintepla REMS because of serious heart-related risks.
