Here's the good news: this particular interaction is really about oral medications, and Filgrastim (Neupogen) doesn't fit that bill. It's given as an injection, either under the skin or into a vein, so it never travels through your stomach and intestines where guar gum forms its thick, absorbing gel.

Because guar gum works by slowing down how things are absorbed from your gut, it has no realistic way to interfere with a medicine you inject. Your Filgrastim should keep working to boost your white blood cells and lower infection risk just the same. If you do take concentrated guar gum, drink plenty of water to avoid bloating or blockage, and as always, run your supplement list by your pharmacist or oncology team.

Guar gum is a soluble, gel-forming fiber from the guar bean that may modestly help with cholesterol, blood sugar, and bowel regularity. It is generally safe in food amounts, but concentrated supplements can cause gas, bloating, and a risk of throat or gut blockage if not taken with enough water. Always take it with plenty of fluid and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Filgrastim Injection

What Is Filgrastim Injection Used For?

Brand name: Neupogen

Filgrastim injection (available as Neupogen, Nivestym, and Releuko) is used to lower the risk of serious infection in people whose white blood cell counts drop dangerously low. This can happen during chemotherapy for cancer, during treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), or after bone marrow transplantation. It is also used to help move stem cells from the bone marrow into the bloodstream so they can be collected for transplantation.

In addition, filgrastim is used long-term to reduce infections in people with severe chronic neutropenia — including congenital neutropenia, cyclic neutropenia, and idiopathic neutropenia. Neupogen is also indicated to increase survival in patients acutely exposed to radiation doses that suppress the bone marrow (Hematopoietic Syndrome of Acute Radiation Syndrome).
