Here's the simple version: when you take guar gum, that soluble fiber forms a thick gel in your stomach and gut. If your frovatriptan (Frova) is sitting in there at the same time, the gel can grab onto it and slow or reduce how much actually gets absorbed into your bloodstream. With a migraine medicine, timing really matters, you want it working quickly to ease that throbbing headache, nausea, and light sensitivity. If less of it gets absorbed, you might get weaker or slower relief.

Frovatriptan is not a prodrug, so this is about absorption, not activation. The easy fix is spacing: take your Frova first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum supplement. Food amounts of fiber are unlikely to be a problem. When in doubt, check with your pharmacist.

What Is Frovatriptan Used For?

Brand name: Frova

Frovatriptan succinate tablets are used to treat a migraine headache once it has already started — with or without aura (visual or sensory symptoms that can precede a migraine). It is approved for adults only.

It is not used to prevent migraines from happening in the first place, and it has not been proven effective for cluster headaches. A clear diagnosis of migraine should be established before use.
