Frovatriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group 5-htp interacts with.

Combining serotonergic drugs with 5-HTP might cause additive serotonergic effects.
5-HTP can increase serotonin levels and cause serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with 5-HTP might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. However, serotonin syndrome with 5-HTP has not yet been reported in humans. Monitor patients for signs of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects if using 5-HTP with serotonergic drugs.

Here's the thing with Frovatriptan (Frova): it works by acting on serotonin receptors to stop a migraine. 5-HTP, meanwhile, raises the amount of serotonin your body makes. So when you put the two together, you're stacking serotonin activity on top of more serotonin. The worry is something called serotonin syndrome, which can show up as agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness, muscle twitching, or fever.

I'll be honest with you though, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how these substances work rather than real reported cases. Serotonin syndrome with 5-HTP hasn't actually been documented in people. Still, since you only take Frova now and then for attacks, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

What Is Frovatriptan Used For?

Brand name: Frova

Frovatriptan succinate tablets are used to treat a migraine headache once it has already started — with or without aura (visual or sensory symptoms that can precede a migraine). It is approved for adults only.

It is not used to prevent migraines from happening in the first place, and it has not been proven effective for cluster headaches. A clear diagnosis of migraine should be established before use.
