Here's the thing about pairing 5-HTP with triazolam (Halcion): both can make you sleepy. Triazolam is a benzodiazepine that quiets brain activity to help you fall asleep, and 5-HTP has caused drowsiness on its own in studies. So when you stack them, you may simply feel more of that sedating effect, things like deeper grogginess, dizziness, feeling foggy, or being unusually hard to wake.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not a strong, proven interaction, so I don't want you to panic. It's more about not being surprised. Before you combine them, run it past your pharmacist or doctor, and be extra careful about driving or moving around until you know how the combination hits you.

What Is Triazolam Used For?

Brand names: Halcion, Triazo, Apo-Triazo, Gen-Triazolam, Mylan-Triazolam, Novo-Triolam, Nu-Triazo

Triazolam tablets are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Treatment is generally intended for 7 to 10 days. Halcion (a brand of triazolam) is specifically indicated for this same short-term use in adults.

Using triazolam for more than 2 to 3 weeks requires a full re-evaluation by your doctor to rule out an underlying medical or psychiatric condition driving the sleep problem.
